Last week on Election Day was a professional development day for Winchester's teachers and staff. WFEE sent the entire English department to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum for a full day of professional development. The teachers spent the morning learning about visual teaching methods, and then in the afternoon they practiced the methods. They did this all in museum, surrounded by the rich visual history that is there.
Many teachers remarked that it was the best professional development they had ever done, and teachers started implementing the skills they learned the next day! Carolyn Plosky, the Director of English for Winchester Public Schools, said "It was amazing! It is really rare to have an opportunity to invest in the same topic for the entire day, including a lab school-style practice session." It sounds like an Election Day well spent!
