Time is Short

f you want your elementary aged daughter to learn how to code now is the time to sign her up for free classes.

“The reason girls don’t do STEM is because of societal pressure. They should do what they are interested in, we want to make sure there is a level playing field.”

Elysia Yuan, WHS Senior

Yuan is a part of fEmpower, a community service program created by Dhwani Sreenivas with the support of WFEE.

"fEmpower CS is a web-based introductory computer science program for elementary school girls that is simple, interactive, and easily scalable to communities with limited resources to teach CS in schools."

Dhwani Sreenvias, WHS Senior

WFEE first recognized Sreenivas and her team with an Entrepreneurship grant last spring. The women offered two rounds of classes which quickly filled up. Sign up is now open for round three which starts on October 5th. Classes for 4th and 5th grade girls will be offered from 7:30-8:30 am on Mondays and Tuesdays for 3 weeks.

"We're excited to be teaching again!"
