$100K for 100!

powerED UP!, the public/private partnership between Winchester Public Schools and WFEE, received a huge boost in June with the gift of $100,000 from the Cummings Foundation.

"This is a transformative gift to an effort that is already changing teaching and learning across our community. With the help of WFEE, we have made huge progress this year, updating our wireless infrastructure and rolling out devices such as iPads and Chromebooks to students. We still have a long way to go before all classrooms have equal access to technology and all teachers have received the necessary professional development. The Cummings grant will help us achieve our goals much more quickly."

Superintendent Bill McAlduff

The $100K for 100 program supports nonprofits serving Middlesex, Essex and Suffolk counties. Through this place-based initiative, the Cummings Foundation aims to give back in the area where it owns commercial buildings, all of which are managed by its affliate Cummings Properties. Founded in 1970 by Winchester's Bill Cummings, the Woburn-based commercial real estate firm leases and manages more than 10 million square feet of space, the majority of which exclusively benefits the Foundation.

wfeeWFEE is both grateful and inspired that the Cummings Foundation believes in our partnership with Winchester Public Schools. As of the end of June 2015, WFEE has donated $300,000 in support of powerED UP!. Teachers tell us this effort is making it easier to engage students in creative and cooperative work. The increase in student devices is having an especially positive effect on students with disabilities and those for whom English is a second language.

More information about powerED UP! is available here , if you have additional questions please contact WFEE Executive Director Caren Connelly at info@wfee.org.

WFEE is nearly half way to its fundraising goal of $850,000! Help us bring technology to all Winchester classrooms with an on-line donation
